1. ONE O'CLOCK
LAB
BAND originals
recorded on Lab 98, 99, 2000 albums by the famous North Texas
State, now University of North Texas premium ensemble.
1.1 McCoy's Mood
(05/2000) 1.8MB
Medium swing featuring 2nd tenor sax and piano
solos with a nice big band soli in the middle. Easy to moderate level
chart.
1.2 Sparkler (05/2000) 2.2MB
That's how in
Czech slang some jazz
musicians call a fast burner. This one features piano, muted trumpet,
bari sax, drums, and a rather complex big band soli. Difficult level
chart.
1.3 Reflections Suite,
Part I, The Cycle of Phases (05/1999) 2MB
Based on polychordal approach, with a nice
contrasting
section in between the main theme. This chart switches feels and meters
between 4/4 and 3/4 with some added 2/4 measures between. In general it
is rather irregular spiral structure, like most of my pieces it ends
the way it starts. Features several instruments, including alto sax,
piano, double bass and drums. Difficult level chart.
1.4 Reflections Suite,
Part II, The Winds of Patmos (05/1999) 2.9MB
Dedicated to a great friend of mine Nick Kanakis,
who
is no longer among us. This chart has more of Southern European
flavors, as well as nice Poinciana groove throughout and features solos
for soprano sax and piano. Moderate to difficult level chart.
1.5 Reflections
Suite, Part III, Faux Pas in Florence (05/1999) 1.9MB
This one is another burner with an easy theme and
modal
solo structure. Features trumpet, piano, tenor sax, guitar and drums.
Moderate to difficult level chart.
1.6 Lullaby (05/1998) 1.6MB
My first arrangement accepted by Neil Slater for
the
One O'clock Band. This score has rather difficult harmony progression
and tight band soli, which outlines the main theme. It features trumpet
and piano solos. Moderate to difficult level chart.

4.1
Lubos Fiser, V Sonata (04/2004) 2.2MB
The following excerpts are taken from
live
performances of my wife, Andrea Adamcova as well as myself. Andrea's
playing has always been a huge inspiration for me. Her sound,
incredible passion for Czech and Slavic music, infinite amount of
colors, and attention to details makes my listening of her creations a
breeze and has inspired me to compose music dedicated to her. All the
examples in Classical Meets Jazz section were again recorded, mixed,
and mastered by PWProductions.

You (04/2004) 4.4MB
This is a classic jazz standard performed in 7/4
meter on Classical Meets Jazz XI
4.12 Autumn Leaves
(11/2001) 3.4MB
Yet another classic standard by Kosma. This
excerpt
starts off with a connection bridge/segue from a previous piece
–
something I like to do from time to time on live performances to keep
me on my toes.
4.13 Lush Live (11/2001)
4.1MB
Classic ballad by Billy Strayhorn, which is taken
to a suggested double time feel, before it comes back for the final
theme.
5. VOCAL JAZZ
project
with RUDY
ROBERSON (2003 - 2004)
Rudy
Roberson - vocal
Mike Holstein - ac. bass (on tracks
5.1 & 5.2)
Pavel Wlosok - piano
5.1
Merry Christmas (12/2003) 6MB
Rudy is a multi-talented colleague of mine at
Western
Carolina University. He teaches at the Theatre and Dance departments
and has had an extensive Broadway and club experience from his New York
City years. This cut is from our very first concert together at WCU,
which happened shortly before Christmas of 2003. I've had fun making
music with Rudy. He is very professional and easy to work with. I'm
sure you'll enjoy these cuts quite a bit.
5.2 Better
Than Anything (12/2003) 3.8MB
5.3
Ballad of the Sad Young Men (04/2004) 3.5MB
The following three excerpts are from a duet
session
Rudy and I put up together for an upcoming gig at the French Riviera .
. . Keep your fingers crossed, so that is all works out
5.4 Teach Me

5.5 The Island (04/2004)

6.
ASHEVILLE area
PROJECTS (2001
– 2003)
6.1 My One
and Only Love (03/2003) 2.9MB
My original arrangement for the newly formed Acoustic
Jazz Trio
with Eliot Wadopian on bass, Byron Hedgepeth on drums, and myself on
the Steinway Concert Grand Piano. Recorded live at WCU, Coulter Recital
Hall.
6.2 Autumn
Leaves (03/2003) 2.8MB
Yet another cut from Acoustic Jazz Trio
. This
one features Byron trading 8 bars with myself, before you can hear the
final theme and coda. Recorded live at WCU, Coulter Recital Hall.
6.3 You Are
Everything (06/2003) 2.3MB
Another classic standard, this one written by
Chick
Corea, who was my first great inspiration in jazz piano playing. Mike
Holstein on bass, Taylor Davis on drums, and myself on the Fender
Rhodes – instrument, which I love to play, especially if
there is
a bad or out of tune piano on the gig.
6.4
I Fall In Love Too Easily (06/2003) 2.6MB
Same personnel as You Are Everything. Enjoy this
classic ballad excerpt, which features Mike Holstein on bass.
6.5 Alice in
Wonderland (02/2001) 2.2MB
This is my original re-harmonization of this
standard
musical song, with features a key modulation for the last A section and
irregular extension at the end of the form. The players are Bobby
Watson on soprano sax, James Ward on bass. This recording was actually
made at Truman State University during their annual jazz festival in
Kirksville, Missouri. I still miss all those friends my wife and I made
there . . .
7. COMMISSIONS & VARIOUS (1995 - 2003)
7.1 String
Quartet In Two Movements, Mvt. One 2.1MB
This piece was commissioned by the Apollon String
Quartet and was recorded for the Czech National Radio in Prague in
2002. I've always wanted to write for strings, but as a piano player I
never had the courage to do so. With this commission I decided to face
the challenge and went for it. What I can tell you from my experience
is that strings indeed are quite complex instruments to write for.
7.2 String
Quartet In Two Movements, Mvt. Two 1.4MB
7.3 Reverberations
for Marimba Solo, Volume I, Part One 1.3MB
This was recorded by my friend Martin Oprsal,
professor
of melodic percussion instruments at the Janacek Academy of Music in
Brno, Czech Republic, on his own, first release as a marimba soloist.
These pieces were written originally on his request and dedicated to
him. Latest performance of newer, Volume II was more recently performed
by Martin in May of 2003.
7.4 Reverberations
for Marimba Solo, Volume I, Part Three 2.5MB
7.5 Space Music I, original all MIDI and
SAMPLEs generated piece 2.4MB
This is a fun piece, which runs for about 8
minutes in
length. This excerpt introduces the middle part of this creation with
rather an easy two-chord progression, which is improvised upon. I used
some of the software synthesis instruments, mainly NI FM-7, NI Pro-53
and NI B-4 as well as some percussion samples from Acid 4.0. For the
sequencing I used Cubase 2.01 and for my controller Yamaha P-200
keyboard. This is complete sound production from a scratch.
Note: You can find additional original solo music of mine in the
Classical Meets Jazz section # 4 above
